DAMAGE CLASSIFICATION TO HISTORICAL WOODEN STRUCTURES: A PRELIMINARY SURVEY AND RECOMMENDATION FOR DONG MINORITY DRUM TOWERS

Abstract. Wood as a common construction material in historical buildings, characteristics and environmental condition is always the main causes to degradation. Dong minority Drum Tower one of essential parts Chinese wooden structural heritage. However, Towers are, at present, poor state conservation, especially suffering from fire risks, biological attacks, mechanical failures bad interventions.This paper aims record observed damage through classification approach that poses negative impact on aesthetics stability Towers. Firstly, based definition term relevant standards, clear structured structures concluded according different hazard grades causes, which are alteration, defect, deterioration failure. Secondly, each revealed field survey classification. At last, actual presented case study Zengying Tower. Subsequently, multi-risks prevention discussed, recommendations proposed with purpose controlling most fatal ranging insects fungi risks operable acceptance by local people authorities.
